Benefits & Passes
Paying for transit is easy with a pass, and there is a pass program for everyone. Click on the links below to learn more about each pass:
- Go-To Card: use anytime and when the pass is depleted, just add more money to it
- Transit Assistance Program: (TAP): Available to lower income residents. TAP provides $1 rides for those who qualify
- Residential Transit Pass: $14 per month for unlimited rides for participating multi-family residential properties
- Metropass: Companies enroll in Metropass then pass along the benefits to employees. Riders get access to all regional buses and trains for $83 per month. Employers can subsidize the pass and offer it pre-tax
The Metro System
Operated by Metro Transit, the METRO system provides fast, frequent all-day service along dedicated routes. Riders can expect trips every 15 minutes most of the day
Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)
Colored BRT lines operate on dedicated roadways and freeways.
- METRO Orange Line connects the cities of Burnsville, Bloomington, Richfield and Minneapolis via I-35W.
- METRO Red Line operates along Cedar Avenue and I-77 from Apple Valley to the Mall of America in Bloomington.
- METRO Blue Line operates along Hiawatha Avenue connecting Minneapolis to the Mall of America in Bloomington.
- METRO Green Line currently operates along University Avenue connecting Minneapolis to St. Paul. The Metro Green line will eventually extend out to Eden Prairie which will open sometime in 2027.
Lettered BRT lines operate in mixed traffic with signal priority:
- METRO A Line operates on Snelling Avenue connecting Minneapolis and St. Paul to the Metro Blue Line at 46th street station.
- METRO C Line travels on Penn Avenue and connects Minneapolis with Brooklyn Center.
- METRO D Line travels from the Brooklyn Center Transit Center to the Mall of America in Bloomington.
- METRO E Line will travel on France Avenue and connect Minneapolis with Edina at Southdale Mall.

I like taking transit because it starts my morning off with a chance to read, relax rather than be in traffic. Being on the bus ensures a chance to use the HOV lane into the downtown area which makes the commute faster for me. The added benefit of reducing my carbon footprint is a bonus.
